ABOUT

We are Anvil Salute. We are pleased to make your acquaintance. In our vast interwebs tag cloud, we have been labeled as experimental, psychedelic, pysch-folk, post-folk, acid folk, free folk, instrumental, psychedelic rock, freak folk, “people who are freakier and folkier than motherfucking Devendra Banhart”, etc. You get the picture. People say we need more tape hiss and gongs. Others say we’re a disappointment. We say, “Maybe.” We like sound. We like to play. You should decide for yourself what we sound like. Maybe you’ll enjoy it.

What else would you like to know? We started a few years ago. As a full-blown band, it was 2003 if you’re keeping track. We’re from Norman, Oklahoma. We are in flux. Always. Currently, We are three… most of the time. On various and sundry instruments, often at the same time, we have Todd FaginGabe Wingfield, and Jeff Richardson. Sometimes Kasra “George” Ahmadi lends a hand. In the recent past, thanks to modern technology, former members have contributed to our recordings. So it is almost like they never left. Well, not really. It is a poor substitute, but the music is better for it.

We miss playing with Greg ElliottKenny BaldridgeRebecca LoftissJesse ButlerBrooke McCorkle, Ben KennedyRandy LewisBrad Fielder, and Kelly Stevens. Please, come home.

For Lee Jackson in Space

Details

This tribute album came together in love and honor of Lee Jackson, writer, music fan, dear friend, who passed in late March 2012 after a struggle with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This collection of songs, nearly all of which are new or previously unreleased, comes from the many bands and musicians who Lee not only covered and celebrated with such passion, but also in many cases befriended over many years of correspondence, concert and festival attendance and more. The album's liner notes contain full information about each song as well as thoughts from Lee himself about the contributing artists, taken from his writing work. All profits will go to the Texas chapter of the ALS Association web.alsa.org/DFW2012 has more information about their continuing work. You can get it at Bandcamp here.
